    Description

    ELKIN NC SEP 15 1862 CSA #4 hp FANCY postmark with 2 strikes of the FANCY cancel! Cover was opened on the left side with slight reduction, GEM 4 margin pair of CSA #4 stone 2 stamps. This is arguably the finest strike known for this fancy postmark with both hollow and negative letters! The black and white scan is the "retro reveal" result showing two blurry strikes of the Elkin fancy PAID 10 DT I handstamp. A scan of the DT I cancel is from another cover, and not included in this lot. A gem cover worthy of the most discriminating collection!!
