Here's an early model by Comoy's, a
HYDE PARK
, LONDON MADE, RUGGY in a very rare design, outstanding to my eye! Hyde Park is an early branding from Comoy’s, and this one is the only one I recall with this wonderful hand rusticated finish. The name RUGGY means rugged or rough, so that name likely applies to the cool hand finish on this bowl, the only one I’ve ever seen with this marking! The pipe reminds me of early Sasieni pipes, with the deep hand-carved rustication and black finish, and smooth bottom panel. The shape is 202, which according to Pipedia’s shape chart is called Danish, but looks like a cutty to me,
I really love the shape
. And this pipe is noticeably light in weight, about 1.05 ounce! The pipe is in terrific shape, very near mint, with no noted wear to either bowl or stem. The bowl interior looks lightly smoked, with thin cake for a nice smoke early on. The stem is original, has (HP) logo on the side, has no tooth wear, nicely cut too. I think it's from the 1940's-50's era. The pipe draws well with draw hole bottom center. This is one of those pipes that I really would rather keep than sell, I really like it a LOT!
