The "Bless this House" cross stitch sampler is inspired by a brass plaque which has hung in the six different homes the  Eisenhowers lived in .  On the back of the plaque, in Mamie Doud Eisenhower's handwriting are the words:  "For David, this plaque hung in the family quarters of the White House for the eight years of your grandfather's tenure as President of the United States of America 1953-1961.  Love your Grandmother, Mimi. Mamie Doud Eisenhower.
